Hostels

1. Barcelona Mar Hostel (Rambla del Raval)
Hip, fun, and full of young travelers, this hostal provides a great way to meet people in the heart of it all. At just 19 euro a bed, with breakfast included, you can be sure that whatever is left over in the budget will be aptly spent with your newfound buddies. The sheets however, aren’t free. You have to rent them but if you’re staying more than a night the 2.50 euro they charge for them will be well spent.

2. Backpackers House BCN (Plaza Catalunya)
Location, location, location. This hostal has it all, and at beds starting at fifteen euro, with breakfast included and free wifi, it’s a steal. Lying at the heart of the city, right between the famous Las Ramblas, the Paseo de Gracia, and the lesser-known Rambla de Catalunya, you’re perfectly situated to see the city by foot. Las Ramblas is of course an obligatory stroll, but be careful as the elbow-to-elbow tourist traffic is a prime target for pick-pockets.
Check-in here is 24 hours but get there before 12 as they do charge a small fee for check-ins after midnight. Bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the kitchen, while there, is sparse. Nothing fancy here, but in terms of convenience and value it’s got ‘em both.

3. Ideal Youth Hostal

Probably the coolest youth hostals in Barcelona, the Ideal Youth Hostal is also one of the cheapest. Beds start at 13 euro, and the building itself has plenty of fun common areas to hang out before or after going out. Most of the rooms have a balcony as an added touch, and all rooms provide free lockers but you have to bring your own lock. Breakfast is included.

4. Hello BCN Hostel
Just steps below Montjuic and its castle, is this charming little hostel with full amenities. The staff is very helpful, the rooms are clean, and they are eager to equip you with maps and info so that you can get out there and enjoy yourself. Typical dorm-like facilities, but with all the essentials (like linens, breakfast, and luggage storage) included in the 16 euro starting price, this is truly a gem in the hostel world.

5. Hostel New York (The Born)
Small rooms, great location, free breakfast and internet all make up what is Hostal New York. In the heart of the Born, this botique-like hostel seems like a true home-away-from-home compared to some other 16-bed rooms that many hostels have. Here the biggest rooms are 4 beds, making it that much easier to get to know your neighbors!
