MacBa

Barcelona’s contemporary art museum is an important landmark not only for the art it houses but the cultural surrounds it sits in. Right across from the University of Barcelona and sitting back-to-back from the Center for Contemporary Culture, it’s open plaza is a hub for students and artists alike. Permanent exhibitions include photography, film, and other audiovisual projects. The museum defines its exhibitions as not so much something to be simply viewed, yet more as an experience, complete with workshops, conferences, and audiovisual screenings. It is on the cutting edge of modern art museums in that sense, and invites visitors ot reflect on the very essence of a museum, in terms of the concept of a museum as a spectacle, and in turn plays with that idea through its experimental programing.

The museum is also aware of the variation among visitors, and so offers different programing depending on interests and ages.

Entrance fees are 3 euro for permanent exhibitions only and 7.5 euro gets you in to everything.

Why should I go?
Because you’ll be blown away by the creativity of spanish artists, and it will probably make you see everything differently.
