5 things to avoid

1.Though world famous, Las Ramblas isn’t necessarily everything it’s cracked up to be. If once-upon-a-time it’s where the locals went to buy their pets, it’s little more than a circus of on-lookers and over priced sangria these days. If anything a quick stroll through is enough to say you’ve been there, and you’re better off eating your paella at one of the beachside restaurants along Marina Village.

2. It may seem like the perfect place to stop for a drink, but the over-bearing and over-priced cafes along the Paseo de Joan de Borbo leading up to the Barceloneta beach are best to avoid. Walk a little farther up the beach and you’ll find better prices and less pressure.

3. The Raval is a neighborhood that’s becoming ever-more popular, but there are certain areas that are better not to visit. The Rambla del Raval makes a good marker; stay to the west (in the direction of the MacBa) and you’ll be fine. Otherwise, be prepared to lose some cash.

4. Don’t get robbed! Even the most unassuming situation can be prove fateful if you’re not watching your wallet. Thievery is a profession for some and that means you won’t even know it’s gone so be sure to avoid the hassle of replacing/canceling credit cards let alone passports. Keep your hand on your wallet and you should be fine.

5. Try to hit the better-known museums, such as the Picasso, during the week. You’ll miss the crowds and have more time to contemplate his ingenious strokes and use of color.
